There's probably a lot more stuff that I haven't written down, but the most important one here is definitely Engine Off. If something doesn't appear on the radar, it can't damage you, and you can ignore it. Get ready to go fix a breach if you choose not to shield. Turn off your engine to prevent further attacks after it hits, or use the shield if you really want to. If it's red, the creature has noticed you and is on its way to attack. Speaking of the radar, the blip color means something. The shield is almost worthless, breaches are fast to fix but if you have plenty of energy or are in the ALZ with a Thermal Upgrade, you can save the time of going out to fix a breach by popping the shield if the blip turns red on the radar. Turn Silent Running on if you can see the Leviathan class creature on your radar, and if they get too close, shut down the engine, turn off Silent Running (your engine is off, no noise, it'll just waste your power) and wait for it to go away before restarting the engine.

I only use Silent Running in the ALZ with the Thermal Upgrade, and even then you don't need it 3/4 of the time.

Silent Running mode is a massive waste of power. It's incredibly simple to turn off your engine after an attack, watch the scary monster swim away, then repair the single breach you got from that single hit you took.Īlso, the smaller enemies like Crabsquid or Ampeels don't do nearly enough damage to even bring the Overshield (top 20 percent of HP, the regenerating bit) down unless there are multiple around your ship, in which case simply shut down your engine if a breach occurs, then go weld. Something that almost no one on here seems to know (with all those posts about their Cyclopses getting blown up and that) is that simply turning off your engine makes the Cyclops emit zero noise.
